Havukka-ahon ajattelija - Veikko Huovinen statue in Sotkamo

Travellers coming to Sotkamo by car are greeted by the statue designed by Nina Terno and dedicated to one of the most famous Finnish novelists, professor Veikko Huovinen (1927–2009) who lived most of his life in Sotkamo. The statue is called "Havukka-ahon ajattelija".

From the Hirvensaari island, you can admire the beautiful lake view and the sand beach Hiukka, seen on the other side of the lake. During the darker seasons, the sand beach and it's boarding trees are lit.
