Myllykolu Museum

Gratis

Myllykolu is the birth and childhood home of the author, F. E. Sillanpää, located on a hill by the Myllyoja stream in the Kierikkala village of Hämeenkyrö. The Myllykolu museum depicts modest “hill cottage sitter” life in the late 19th century. The cabin has a hallway, main room and a back room.

Myllykolu was Frans Emil Sillanpää’s home for a decade. He began his schooling in 1898, at the newly founded Haukijärvi Elementary School, living in the school quarters. He only walked home on Saturdays. The following year, Miina and Pransu also moved next to the Haukijärvi school, and Myllykolu was sold.

The museum is open during the summer season from June 30 to August 4, 2024 on Sundays from 12 AM to 6 PM.
