Attraction
This 2.5 km hiking trail a stone’s throw away from Mikkeli city centre is an ideal spot for a day out in the nature whilst being near the city. The trail is in Saimaa Central Park and is a Saimaa Geopark site. With signposts telling you about the history of the 11 000-year-old Kaihunharju esker and the nearby Urpola Nature Centre’s interactive exhibitions about the surrounding nature, you are sure to return with interesting information about the region’s history.
Easy to navigate terrain makes this trail suitable for all ages. You can dip in the lake at the beach or nearby Mikkelipuisto Park which also has a picnic area, barbeque facilities free of charge, a restaurant, and a model garden. You can rent canoes in the summertime and enjoy the esker from the water.
Also nearby is the famous Kenkävero vicarage, which offers old fashioned glamour, excellent local food, beautiful gardens and plenty of shopping opportunities. In the summertime you can feed the sheep and chickens and visit Santa's secret hideaway.
