Attraction
Less than an hour away by public transport lies a large unspoiled nature preserve with numerous trails winding through quiet forested hillsides and valleys. In Nuuksio National Park visitors can escape to a green oasis at the capital city Helsinki´s doorstep. Close enough for a day hike and a family picnic, but also ideal for a weekend campout, Nuuksio’s pristine scenery is a microcosm of Finland’s world-famous natural landscape.
The park has more than 30 kilometres of marked trails which offer the best way to explore the beautiful scenery and its diverse flora and fauna. There are more than a dozen interconnecting trails that meander through the park and surrounding areas. The two-kilometre-long Maahisenkierros Circle Trail offers a real nature experience for those in wheelchairs and families with children in pushchairs or prams. In summer, local operators rent canoes, SUP boards and fatbikes. It’s possible to swim in almost all of the lakes and ponds in the park. There are camping sites and lean-to shelters for overnight stays.
In nature conservation areas, everyman's rights do not apply in the normal way. Please always check the rules of the destination before making your trip.
National parks are nature reserves, whose key task is to safeguard biodiversity and enable people to enjoy and relax in nature on the terms of nature conservation. All national parks in Finland are managed by Metsähallitus.
