Mäntysaari Recreation Area

Free

Mäntysaari island is a nature lover's paradise, with you are met with varied forest nature and magnificent pine trees over a hundred years old. The wooded island offers a peaceful, natural stopover for hikers, canoers, kayakers and boaters. The island's beaches have 500 metres of natural beach, attracting visitors to enjoy being by the water.

An outdoor trail around the island offers visitors the opportunity to explore the island's diverse nature. At Mäntysaari there are two campfire sites where you can stop for a picnic and enjoy the stunning lake view. The swimming beach offers a refreshing area for a dip in the lake, and there are mooring buoys for boats.

The cultural landscape of Lake Hauhonselkä represents a nationally recognised traditional village and agricultural landscape. The forests of Mäntysaari are mixed and layered, creating a diverse habitat for birds and other animals. The island flora varies from dry pine forest to more lush woodlands.

The shores are rocky and vegetation is sparse, so the forest extends right up to the shoreline. (At low tide, however, more shoreline vegetation can be seen at the north-western tip of the island.) When the water level is low, however, more shoreline vegetation can be seen at the north-western tip of the island.

The island is not on a signposted boat route, so the responsibility for navigating and landing on the water lies with the visitor.
