For the best chances of catching the auroras, head north to Lapland between September and April, when the nights are long and dark. The further from city lights, the better—remote spots like Utsjoki, Saariselkä, and Kilpisjärvi offer stunning, unobstructed views. But don’t worry, you don’t have to freeze while waiting. Many resorts throughout Lapland offer glass cabins and aurora huts, so you can watch the sky light up from the warmth of your bed.
