Helsinki's newest island destination opened its doors to the public on June 20, 2024!
Experience something truly unique! Designed by Eliel Saarinen and built in 1918, Merilinna invites visitors to enjoy unparalleled views and breathe in the atmosphere of a bygone era.
The island is located in the middle of the old Helsinki archipelago villa area, which was largely inaccessible to ordinary citizens in the past.
The area comprises two islands, Kivisaari and the smaller Karhusaari, with a combined area of five hectares. A bridge connects the two islands.
In Kivisaari, there is beautiful main building Merilinna, designed by Eliel Saarinen, five accommodation buildings, a chapel, and a sauna. Kivisaari has total of about 50 beds to accommodate in different rooms and cottages. The island has electricity, drinkable water, and 8 dry toilets. There is also a lakeside sauna with swimming pier. In Karhusaari, there is a barbecue area.
The island offers excellent opportunities for recreation and events. The Merilinna restaurant can be rented for private events, and there is also the Kaleeri building, which can fit up to 50 people for dinner or meeting. The sauna can be rented privately for groups, and various activities can be arranged upon request.
You can reach the island via the Eastern Archipelago Route: https://www.frs-finland.fi/eastern-archipelago-cruise/
Group transport can also be arranged as a private transfer.
