Arctic Lakeland - Summer Experience 7 days

This group tour around the North-Eastern part of Finland combines the highlights of Finnish summer.

Day 1

Arrival at Oulu/Kajaani/Kuopio airport. The transfer by Pohjolan Matka coach to Arctic Giant Birdhouse Hotel in Paltamo. The Arctic Giant is a mystical world of forest spirits and other magical creatures, located on the high Kivesvaara hill in Paltamo. Welcome drink and dinner at restaurant Makuhelmi.

Day 2

Day cruise to the fabulous Ärjänsaari Island by Finland’s northernmost steamship, S/S Kouta to the Lake Oulujärvi. A light lunch on the ship. Transfer to Kuhmo town. Hotel Kalevala is a unique, small, private lakeside hotel only 3 km from Kuhmo centre. Surrounded by ancient forests and crystal clear lakes. Welcome drink, Old Times Dinner (6-7 courses) and overnight at Kalevala Hotel.

Day 3

Breakfast and a refreshing morning swimm at the lake.

Juminkeko Folkore and stories 2 h. Juminkeko is one of the biggest national centres dedicated to the Kalevala. At Haapala B&B Brewery lunch and brewery tour and tasting. Mystery of Arctic Garden, duration 2 hours.

Traditional summer evening- excursion to Lentiira Holiday Village for smoke sauna and swimming. Dinner at the atmospheric Pirtti restaurant.

Day 4

Visit to nature centre Petola offers information on the Finnish large carnivores: bear, lynx, wolf and wolverine. Lunch at the hotel and guided activities in the hotel’s surroundings. Bear watching evening at the Bear Centre nearby.

Day 5

Transfer to Suomussalmi, to Soiva Metsä (Musical Forest).

Baking workshop in idyllic, old wooden log house Vanha Kurimo and a soup lunch. Dessert is enjoyed in the Silent People Café, a proper fire-brewed, kettle coffee and delicious butter-baked Finnish crepes in an enchanting cultural landscape. Transfer to Saija Lodge, Taivalkoski, dinner and overnight.

Day 6

Life on a Husky farm, Visit to a Reindeer Farm and The Hossa national park.

Dinner and overnight at Saija´s Lodge.

Day 7

Check-out and transfer to Oulu or Kajaani airpor
