Pernaja church is a medieval gray stone church, which was built by a German master builder named Pernåmästaren. Pernaja church was probably built sometime between 1410-40. The church's nave has three naves, an armory and a sacristy. The nave is divided by five pairs of columns, which support the star vault of the inner ceiling with its 12 or 28 bays.
The interior of the church bears traces of several eras: the baptismal font dates from the 1400s, the triumphal crucifix from the 15th century, a fragment of the crucifix dates from the 17th century, the pulpit and the altar cabinet date from 1650.
The church also has plaster paintings, which mostly date from the 1440s . The outer gable is decorated with artistic brick details. In the area of the parish there are a large number of mansions, which can be seen in the many coats of arms that are in the church's chancel.
Pernaja church's bell tower was built in 1853. The stained glass windows from 1939 were made by Lennart Segerstråle.
